The Sarawak Monitoring and Enforcement Unit (UPKP) has arrested 15 Bangladeshis while trying to enter the Malaysian state of Sarawak using fraudulent visas.

The Sarawak Immigration Department Malaysia (GIM) and the Sarawak Monitoring and Importation Unit (UPKP) jointly arrested them at the Kuching International Airport (KIA) on Monday (July 28).

According to GIM and UPKP, they were arrested upon arrival at the Sarawak airport from Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 12:50 pm.

Initial investigation revealed that they had no record of entering the Malaysian immigration system. They deceived the Bangladeshi authorities by using fake immigration stamps after checking their passports.

During interrogation of the detained Bangladeshis, a Bangladeshi syndicate/agency had charged 18-20 thousand ringgit for entering Malaysia.

The detainees have reportedly been detained at the Semuja Immigration Detention Depot for further investigation under the Malaysian Immigration Act 1959/63.
