Container handling operations at the New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) of Chattogram Port have seen a remarkable 36.4% increase within just 10 days, following the handover of operational control to the Bangladesh Navy-controlled Chattogram Dry Dock Limited (CDDL).

According to information from the Office of the Chief Advisor, the daily average number of containers handled at the terminal has risen by 225 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) since CDDL took charge. On July 3, the port handled 2,233 TEUs, which jumped to 3,047 TEUs by Sunday, July 13.

This sharp uptick in operational performance comes after the expiration of the contract with the previous operator, Saif Powertec Limited, on July 6. As per the decision of the Ministry of Shipping, CDDL officially assumed management of the terminal on July 7.

In a statement posted on the Chief Advisor’s verified Facebook page, it was highlighted that between July 7 and July 13, CDDL successfully completed loading and unloading operations for 10 vessels at the NCT terminal. Currently, operations are ongoing simultaneously at four jetties, demonstrating efficient resource deployment and coordination.

A comparative analysis between the two management periods shows that from July 1 to July 6, under Saif Powertec’s operation, the average daily container handling stood at 2,956 TEUs. However, from July 7 to July 12, CDDL managed an average of 3,181 TEUs per day—a significant operational improvement in just a few days.

The shift in management marks a new chapter for Chattogram Port, Bangladesh’s key maritime gateway, with early results suggesting that the Navy-led management model may bring greater efficiency and throughput to one of the region’s busiest container terminals.
