National Citizen Party (NCP) Convenor Nahid Islam has accused the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) of emerging as the new guardians of Mujibism and organized extortion, calling on the public to resist and confront them.
Speaking at a public rally in Patuakhali on Monday as part of the ongoing movement titled “July March for Nation Building”, Nahid said, “BNP has now turned into a party of extortionists and has taken up the role of defending Mujibism. They must be opposed at every level.”
He stated, “We have long said that Mujibism has created division in the country. It has held back the progress of the state. And now, it is BNP that is trying to uphold the 1972 Mujibist constitution — the very constitution they once rejected.”
“BNP is no longer the alternative to corruption. It has become part of the same system of extortion, terrorism, and political violence that it once claimed to oppose. We are not just fighting Sheikh Hasina; we are fighting against all forces that defend the old system of corruption. There is no possibility of unity with those who stand in the way of building a new, corruption-free Bangladesh,” he declared.
Nahid further claimed that the real threat to Bangladesh lies within. “We used to believe that our enemies were outside the country. But now, we see that the true enemies are among us — within the corrupt bureaucratic and political system that holds the nation hostage.”
He alleged that conspiracies are being carried out against the NCP because of its uncompromising stance against the entrenched system. “They are trying to divide us to prevent unity. But we will respond with people’s support. This is a movement for liberation from extortion, not just a political campaign.”
Concluding his speech, Nahid announced that the party will launch the “July Charter” on August 3, aimed at establishing a new national roadmap. “No matter how many conspiracies arise, our march will not stop. From Patuakhali, we declare — this journey continues.”
