This morning, BNP ICT Secretary Wahiduzzaman uploaded a video of a conversation and some screenshots to his Facebook profile.
He claimed that Sarjis was taking an iPhone as a gift from a person (whose identity we could not independently verify). In the video, Sarjis can be heard sounding a bit annoyed at the other person for being late.
We also saw a few screenshots where Sarjis is desperately asking for the contact numbers of two big Bangladeshi groups—Walton and Partex. He says he needs a big donation from them right now. In another screenshot, Sarjis is asking the same person to lend him his/her car. In the last screenshot, the person even comments, “Maybe you only talk to me when you need money!”
One screenshot shows that the person in the screenshot chat actually gave 2.8 lakh taka to someone, following Sarjis’s instructions.
After Wahiduzzaman’s post, there were mixed reactions online. Some netizens commented that “this is the new system!” Others said it’s normal to collect money for party funds, while another group questioned whether this money actually goes to the party fund or ends up in the leader’s own pocket.
We could not reach Sarjis Alom for comment, and we also could not verify the identity of the other person in these conversations.
