The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has walked out of the National Consensus Commission meeting.
The party walked out of the meeting at the Foreign Service Academy on Monday (July 28).
A source confirmed that BNP has already made a proposal on statutory constitutional institutions. Today, the issue has been brought up for discussion again. For this reason, BNP walked out of the commission meeting for a while. However, they joined the meeting again.
Earlier, CPB, BSD and Bangladesh JSD walked out of the National Consensus Commission dialogue, alleging an attack by law enforcement officers on the protest program of students and guardians of Milestone School and College in Uttara in the capital. These three parties held a ‘symbolic walkout’ for 10 minutes.
The incident took place after 11 am on Wednesday (July 23) during the second phase of the Consensus Commission dialogue. Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor Monir Haider requested the Vice President of the Commission, Professor Ali Riaz, to speak as the moderator. Then, CPB General Secretary Ruhin Hossain Prince spoke. At around 11:25 am, the leaders of the three parties joined the dialogue again.
Ruhin Hossain Prince said, “We can see the shadow of the kind of things that dictatorial rulers used to do when such incidents happened in the past. We know that those who were dictators will create various crises and conspiracies here.” He said, “Although the discussion of consensus is important, I am forced to take the decision of a walkout. It is not possible to be here without protesting this incident. That is why I do not want to stay for 10 minutes.”
