A training aircraft has crashed into a building on the campus of Milestone College in Uttara, Dhaka, causing a devastating accident while junior students’ classes were underway inside. The tragic incident occurred just moments before the school was about to close for the day.
Rezaul Islam, a teacher at Milestone College, shared his eyewitness account of the accident, which took place on Monday, July 21. “It was just before the school break—suddenly, the training aircraft crashed directly onto the building that houses our junior section, where classes for nursery, grade one, two, and three are held,” he told reporters.
According to Rezaul Islam, the impact created a massive hole at the building’s entrance and caused an immediate fire.
Multiple videos of the crash have gone viral on social media, showing the aircraft’s engine engulfed in flames near the ground floor of the school building, while firefighters attempt to extinguish the blaze. Students were seen being evacuated from the upper floors.
At the time of reporting, both fire service and army personnel are conducting rescue operations at the scene. So far, at least 19 people have reportedly lost their lives in this tragic accident.
