Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has strongly condemned the practice of character assassination against any individual or political group, calling it “completely undesirable and deplorable.” He emphasized that criticism should always be based on logic and factual reasoning.
In a statement published on his verified Facebook page on Sunday (July 13), Dr. Rahman expressed deep concern over recent incidents in society that he described as painful and unsettling. He noted that maintaining societal harmony is not the responsibility of any single party or institution. Rather, it requires the collective efforts of the government, political parties, and people from all walks of life.
“During such sensitive times, there must be at least a minimal space for national unity,” he stressed.
Commenting on freedom of expression, the Jamaat Ameer stated, “It is your rightful liberty to express your opinion. However, any protest against injustice must be conveyed through civilized language. Criticism must be constructive—rooted in logic and supported by facts.”
He further warned that personal attacks or defamatory actions only serve to spread disorder, resentment, and disunity in society. “Such behavior sows seeds of chaos and hatred,” he wrote, urging everyone to act with restraint, caution, and responsibility.
Dr. Rahman concluded by reiterating the need for all parties to play a balanced role in maintaining social harmony, particularly during challenging times.
