Bangladesh’s law enforcement agencies have commenced a nationwide “combing operation” from today, as announced by Home Affairs Adviser Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury. The decision was declared following the 11th meeting of the Advisory Committee on Law and Order held on Sunday.

According to the Home Affairs Adviser, law enforcement agencies are already conducting regular drives against all forms of criminal activity, including murder, theft, robbery, extortion, mugging, terrorism, abduction, violence against women, mob violence, and drug trafficking. He emphasized that the government is fully committed to taking strict action against any activity that disrupts public order and safety.

“In view of the country’s current situation, a special or sweeping operation has been launched, and it will continue from today,” said Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, adding that such steps are essential for ensuring peace and security across the nation.

He also described the recent incident at Mitford as deeply regrettable, saying, “Such incidents are unacceptable in a civilized society.” He reaffirmed the government’s determination to bring all those involved in recent killings to justice. Law enforcement, he noted, is working proactively—responding quickly to incidents and arresting perpetrators.

Extension of Magistracy Powers for Armed Forces Officers

In a related development, the government has extended the executive magistracy powers of commissioned officers of the armed forces for an additional two months. The Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification on Sunday, allowing these officers to exercise such authority nationwide for the next 60 days.

The interim government has reiterated its commitment to upholding law and order and ensuring public safety throughout the country, signaling a robust response to recent criminal activities and unrest.
