The election commission is recommending to reshuffle 39 constituency seats in 14 districts.
Election Commissioner (EC) Anwarul Islam Sarkar said at a press conference at the Secretariat on Wednesday (July 30).
A specialized technical committee comprising experts of the Election Commission has submitted recommendations for re-determining the boundaries of the parliamentary constituencies, Anwarul Islam Sarkar said, “Section 6 of the Boundary Redetermination Act 2021 states that in determining the boundaries, this boundary must be determined by giving importance to three factors: administrative system, geographical integrity and population census. According to Census 2022, some issues are a little inconsistent. We have the updated number of voters. The committee has determined the average number of voters based on our voter list, based on the number of voters, average 4 lakh 20 thousand is the measure to determine a constituency seats. The technical committee has made a grading based on the number of voters, that is, which district has the highest number of voters and which district has the least number of voters.’
EC Anwarul said, ‘The technical committee finding recommend to increase one seat in the district with the highest voters and reduce one seat in the district with the least voters. We have taken the decision based on recommendation.’
The boundaries of the constituencies whose boundaries are being changed are Panchagarh-1, 2, Rangpur-3, Sirajganj-1, 2, Satkhira-3, 4, Shariatpur-2, 3, Dhaka-2, 3, 7, 10, 14, 19, Gazipur-1, 2, 3, 5, 6, Narayanganj-3, 4, 5, Sylhet-1, 3, Brahmanbaria-2, 3, Comilla-1, 2, 10, 11, Noakhali-1, 2, 4, 5, Chittagong-7, 8 and Bagerhat-2, 3 seats.
