The army exchanged fire with UPDF in Rangamati, arms and ammunition were recovered from there- a statement sent by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Tuesday (July 29).
The army conducted a raid on the UPDF hideout in the remote hills of Baghaihat in Rangamati. where the army was forced to exchange fire with miscreants. AK-47s and rifles, along with ammunition, were recovered in the raid.
The ISPR said, the raid is still ongoing. Details will be announced soon.
Earlier before raid, miscreants shot dead Khuku Chakma (41), a member of the Democratic Youth Forum, an affiliate of the United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF), in Panchhari, Khagrachari. The central president of the Democratic Youth Forum, Jico Tripura, has blamed the Hill Tracts Chittagong Jana Sanghati (JSS) led by Santu Larma liable for the murder.
In a press release sent on Sunday night (July 27), Democratic Youth Forum’s central office secretary Shyamal Chakma said, around 3 pm on Sunday, Khuku Chakma, a member of the Khagrachari district branch of the Democratic Youth Forum, went to meet a friend in Ugudochari village of Chengi union in Panchhari when an armed group of JSS led by Piklu Chakma opened fire on him. He was seriously injured after being shot in the leg. Later, the miscreants rescued him alive, shot him dead at gunpoint and left.
