The Jahangirnagar University (JU) unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal organized a protest rally on Saturday, July 12, demanding the swift arrest and exemplary punishment of those involved in the killing of businessman Sohag, who was murdered in front of Mitford Hospital, Chawkbazar, Dhaka.

The protest procession began at around 4:00 PM from the university’s transport square and concluded with a brief gathering in front of the Shahid Minar.

Participants of the rally chanted slogans including, “Break and demolish the hideouts of the killers,” and “Unite to ignite flames against terrorism.”

During the rally, a brief gathering was moderated by Wasim Ahmed Anik, Member Secretary of JU Chhatra Dal.

Joint Convener Affan Ali, addressing the gathering, stated, “Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal has always stood uncompromisingly on the streets against all injustices. The murder at Mitford Hospital is among the most heinous crimes. Simultaneously, another brutal murder took place in Khulna. We know the perpetrators behind these killings. We do not tolerate any murder. Immediate action must be taken to stop mob killings, and the accused individuals must be arrested swiftly.”

Affan Ali further emphasized, “Each murder must be thoroughly investigated and justice ensured. Such killings that have occurred during Hasina’s tenure must never recur.”

Concluding the gathering, JU Chhatra Dal Convener Jahir Uddin Mohammad Babar expressed disappointment, highlighting, “Following July, we envisioned a state founded upon equality and justice. Sadly, even a year after the mass uprising, the country’s law-and-order situation continues to deteriorate.”

Babar asserted, “Had the interim government ensured timely justice and punishment for incidents of murder and mob violence from the beginning, no one would have dared to commit such brutal acts.”

He further remarked, “Media trials targeting specific incidents inadvertently incite mob violence. Those involved in such heinous crimes have no political allegiance or ideological foundations. Therefore, justice must be impartial and devoid of political bias.”
