The National Consensus Commission will resume discussions with political parties, this time to devise a binding mechanism for the July Charter where by parties would be obligated to implement it.
Speaking at a press conference at the L D Hall of the parliament this morning, the commission’s vice chair, Prof Ali Riaz said it was essential to determine through dialogue with political parties how the charter, drafted on the basis of consensus (and expected to be signed eventually), could be made legally binding and thus, effectively implemented.
To this end, the commission will hold talks with experts next week, he said.
Prof Riaz expressed hope that the process would lead to an appropriate decision within a short time.
